Letter to the editor – Alan Berliner

Het filmessay is opgebouwd uit foto’s die de Amerikaanse documentairemaker gedurende veertig jaar uit The New York Times knipte en vervolgens archiveerde via een ingenieus systeem. In zijn humoristische en bezorgde voice-over richt Berliner zich op de nieuwsconsument in de verre toekomst, voor wie de krant waarschijnlijk een onbekend concept is.

Juryrapport: "From the future…To the future… The filmmaker manages to capture the world, using a unique and obsessive visual language. With a relentless practice of cutting news clips and images over the past 40 years, he brings a vision of an ever changing world, in a paradigmatic rhythm. He is taking us in transition to an unknown future, and we are being guided by humanistic and artistic patterns with all its recurrences as a way to predict a future from the present."
